Group DF Arranges Production of Titanic Ingots on the “Zaporozhye Titanium-Magnesium Combine”

“Zaporozhye Titanium-magnesium combine” (ZTMC) began tests of the new equipment and technological processes for production of titanic ingots and alloys. Investments into ZTMC modernization – part of the Group DF program on development of the titanic industry of Ukraine for which realization the group plans to invest 2,5 bln. dollars of the USA till 2017.

Production of titanic ingots and alloys – qualitatively new level for the Ukrainian titanic industry. Deep processing of the titan will allow ZTMK to let out production with higher additional cost that will give the chance to Ukraine of an exit to the world markets of high technologies, such as aircraft industry. “I am firmly convinced that for the titan the future of the world industry, and Ukraine can and has to take in it a worthy place”, – the chairman of the board of Group DF Dmitry Firtash told. “Today Ukraine takes only the first step in this perspective direction. We are a new player in the market, and we still should acquire base of partners, to expand the product range, to carry out its certification and to start large-scale production”, – Dmitry Firtash added.

At the first stage of adjustment of production of titanic ingots and alloys of ZTMC modernized the equipment of electron beam installation, including replacement of guns and industrial equipment, installation of sensors and computer control systems for melting process. It allows to automate a number of operations, to supervise a set of technological parameters, to increase reliability of work of the equipment and quality of products. "Today the combine is faced by a serious problem on working off of the production technology of ingots with the set parameters of quality and in the necessary range, – the director general of ZTMC Vladimir Sivak told. – Now we carry out a cycle of hot tests of the new equipment and technologies for the purpose of achievement of necessary operational characteristics.

Earlier in 2013 Group DF announced plans for the ZTMC two new production of titanium slag and titanium sponge, and also about plans of construction of the new titanium dioxide production at the company “Crimea TITAN”.
The group is committed to the consolidation of Ukrainian titanium industry into a vertically-integrated holding, able to effectively compete on the world markets and to bring Ukraine into number of leading world manufacturers. Holding will cover production titan the containing ores, production of titanium dioxide and titanium metal.

Se “Zaporozhye titanium-magnesium combine (ZTMC) is the only in Ukraine and Europe manufacturer of sponge titanium.

In the framework of modernization of the equipment of the electron-beam installation (ELU) for melting titanium ingots and alloys, were replaced with guns “Paton 300” on discharge, modern systems of management with the use of microprocessor technology, replacement of technological equipment, which ensures the optimal technology of melting of ingots, as well as enhances the reliability of operation of the equipment. For ELU installed software and hardware complex of process control “Photon”, which allows to efficiently operate the process of melting.

ELU equipped with the system of control of melt metal level in the mould, which allows you to automate the process of withdrawing and further reduce losses during machining ingots nearly 2%. ELU has temperature sensors and tributary draining water guns, elements of the technological equipment with data output to the remote smelter. It allows to significantly improve the monitoring of the process of melting of ingots on all operating modes.

Considerable work has been conducted in the sphere of organization of appropriate working conditions for personnel in this area. For a refiner's significantly improved working conditions, because now he controls the manufacturing process in a separate operator's room. Complex “Photon” allows to carry out a number of operations in the automatic mode “autopilot”, and the operator during the melting process can control a lot more technological parameters.

The final product of the plant will be ingots of titanium and its alloys with specified chemical composition with a diameter of 400 mm and 600 mm, length up to 4000 mm, as well as slabs size 165х955 мм and 260х1060 мм, length up to 4000 mm in the following grades: grade1 process, GRADE2, GRADE3, GRADE4, GRADE5, ВТ5Л.

Titanium alloys have a number of advantages and in the world economy they got quite a lot of use as a construction material in various industries: power engineering, machine building, ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy, shipbuilding, and other.

In 2012, the state property Fund of Ukraine held a tender for the selection of non-state participants of open company “Zaporozhye titanium-magnesium combine”, which is created with the purpose of attraction of investments in the enterprise. The winner of the competition became the group of companies of Group DF. Integral property complex of the “Zaporozhye titanium and magnesium combine” will be brought in the authorized capital of LLC “Zaporozhye titanium and magnesium combine”. 51% share in the authorized capital of the company will remain state-owned and 49% share gains the group of companies of Group DF.

Group DF is a diversified international group of companies, operating in a number of countries in Europe and Asia. The main activities of the group are nitrogen, titanium, natural gas and banking businesses. Other spheres of activities of the group currently include agribusiness, media business, soda ash production, development of infrastructure, energy and real estate.
